Preschool Education Aid (PEA) Information Sheet

Sayreville Public Schools currently operates its preschool programming under the Project Before name, with full and half day classes at Samsel Upper Elementary School (IPSP) and half day classes at Selover School (Little Stars).  Recently, the New Jersey Department of Education awarded Sayreville Public Schools funding to expand and offer tuition free, full day preschool for all 3 and 4-year-old resident children.  To do this, Sayreville has developed a multi-year operational plan as detailed below.

2019-2020 School Year

  • Convert our existing half day classes at Selover to full day classes and lowering enrollment to 15 students per class, with a target date of October 16, 2019. The new name for this location will be Project Before at Selover.
  • Open 4 new preschool classrooms at Acelero Learning, which will allow us to provide preschool education to 60 Head Start students, with a target date of October 16, 2019. The new name for this location will be Project Before at Acelero/Head Start.
  • Open 1 new preschool classroom at Acelero Learning, which will allow us to provide preschool education to 15 new preschool students, with a target date of October 16, 2019.The new name for this location will be Project Before at Acelero/Private.

    *New seats will be offered on a first come/first served basis, using the Sayreville Public Schools online registration system.

  • Open 1 new preschool classroom at Garden Friends/Private, which will allow us to provide preschool education to 15 new preschool students, with a target date of October 16, 2019.The new name for this location will be Project Before at Garden Friends.

    *New seats will be offered on a first come/first served basis, using the Sayreville Public Schools online registration system.

  • Re-name our SUES preschool location to Project Before at SUES.
  • In accordance with our transportation policy for students in grades K-12, free bussing will be provided to all students who reside more than 0.7 miles from the school in which they will attend with a target date of October 28, 2019.

2020-2021 School Year

  • Convert our existing half day preschool classes at SUES to full day and lowering enrollment to 15 students per class, with a target date of September 4, 2020.
  • Add up to 15 additional classes throughout our entire preschool operation, increasing our capacity to educate up to 225 additional students.

    *A lottery system will be used if demand exceeds available seats.

  • In accordance with our transportation policy for students in grades K-12, beginning on September 4, 2020, free bussing will be provided to all students who reside more than 0.7 miles from the school in which they will attend.

At all Project Before locations, preschool will be provided consistent with NJDOE requirements for high quality programming and designed to meet the NJ Preschool Teaching and Learning Standards.  Administrative oversight, credentialed teachers, the use of Tools of the Mind Curriculum, the use of a Master Teacher, Professional Development, Program Assessment, and Family Engagement will be consistent throughout all locations.
