Internet Safety
In the District Technology Plan students are taught online safety within their technology,
library or social studies courses. When research is done during Social Studies classes
in grades 1-3, grade 6, and grades 8-12, students receive instruction on Internet
safety by the Media Specialists/Librarians in the libraries. Internet safety includes
net-etiquette, appropriate online social networking behavior, and cyberbullying
awareness. It is presently mandated in the New Jersey Core Content Standards 8.1
and 8.2 that students are taught Internet Safety (8.1.4.B2; 8.1.4.B3 and 8.1.4.B4).
Presently the Director of Technology, the media specialist/librarians and technology
teachers are iSafe certified. The above mentioned measures are used in the district
to fulfill the requirements of the Protecting Children in the 21st Century
Act.
