Sayreville Public Schools
Internet Safety

In the District Technology Plan students are taught online safety within their technology, library or social studies courses. When research is done during Social Studies classes in grades 1-3, grade 6, and grades 8-12, students receive instruction on Internet safety by the Media Specialists/Librarians in the libraries. Internet safety includes net-etiquette, appropriate online social networking behavior, and cyberbullying awareness. It is presently mandated in the New Jersey Core Content Standards 8.1 and 8.2 that students are taught Internet Safety (8.1.4.B2; 8.1.4.B3 and 8.1.4.B4). Presently the Director of Technology, the media specialist/librarians and technology teachers are iSafe certified. The above mentioned measures are used in the district to fulfill the requirements of the Protecting Children in the 21st Century Act.
